Blessings to you this Holy Week!

"It is Finished" – Good Friday, March 25 at 8pm in the Church

The days before and leading to the Crucifixion are brought to life through the characters of Pontius Pilate, Joseph of Arimathea, Dismas the Good Thief, Veronica and Judas Iscariot in this by the Glenn Mohr Chorale.  We are pleased to offer this “deeply moving yet finally triumphant” presentation to our parish family on Good Friday, March 25.  The presentation is appropriate for school age children as well as adults, so please mark your calendar and make this a family event.

Holy Week and Easter Liturgies

The first Holy Week, by the plan of God, was the most important week in the life of Jesus Christ.  This Holy Week, likewise, should be the most important week in the entire year for each one of us.  It should be a week of prayer and reflection.  We hope you will join us at the many services the parish has planned for this week.  See page 9 for the schedule of services for Holy Week and Easter.

The History of the Family of St. Pius X Church (1955-2015)

The waiting is over!  After a year of researching, planning, multiple layouts and edits, The History of the Family of St. Pius X Church is now in print.  Please join me in giving thanks to Marion Celenza for the many hours she devoted to this project.  The book is available in the parish office. Suggested donation of $10.

Annual Parish Golf Outing

Mark your calendars!  Get your foursome ready!  The date for the Annual Parish Golf Outing is set for Monday, June 13, 2016 at the exclusive Brookville Country Club.  This year we will be honoring Edward and Janet Lee and Mercedes and Lenny Colwin for their many contributions in support of our parish.  For registration and sponsorship information, see p. 7 in the bulletin!  Hope to see you on the tee!

Catholic Ministries Appeal 2016

The generosity of our parish family never ceases to humble me.  To date, we have pledged $27,090 to the 2016 Catholic Ministries Appeal - this is 78% of our goal!  Thank you to all who have already pledged and to those who have not done so, I ask you to prayerfully consider donating.  Remember – no donation is too small.  For those who are unable, we thank you for your prayers.  It is my hope that we can reach our parish goal by Easter Sunday.

Update on the New Restroom in the Church

I am sure you have noticed that work on our new restroom in the church is in progress – it is hard to miss!  With about 50% of the work now complete, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.  We hope to have the project completed by Easter Sunday!  I thank you for your patience during the planning and construction phases of the project.

Installation of New Windows

The work on the installation of new windows in the north wing of the school currently occupied by our tenants, ACDS is now complete.  I was successful in negotiating a good price (approximately $50,000) with Kelly Windows of Farmingdale.  Kelly Windows provided the replacement windows for the other areas of the school building.  The north wing is the only part of the school building which still has the original windows from the 1960s.  So as you can see, this project is well overdue and will provide a cost savings in energy conservation.   The funds to cover this project will come from the rebate from the Catholic Ministries Appeal and the proceeds from the 2016 Golf Outing in June.  I thank you in advance for your support.

Rest in Peace

This past week we said farewell to a member of our parish family - Ada Kasha.  Many recall Ada as an elegant lady with a warm smile of welcome for anyone she met.  Ada and her beloved husband Robert were avid lovers of music with the exceptional talent of being able to play quite a number of instruments.  Sharing her love of music, Ada was a dedicated member of our Choir for many years.  In addition, Ada was an excellent seamstress who made some of the altar cloths and credence table covers we use each week.  While we will miss Ada, we know that she is now singing with the choir of angels in heaven.

God Bless You -

Fr. Valentine
