Week in Review (March 6-13)

Dear Family,

So much news - so many great things happening in our wonderful parish!  Here is a short update.

Catholic Ministries Appeal 2016

The generosity of our parish family never ceases to humble me.  To date, we have pledged $27,090 to the 2016 Catholic Ministries Appeal - this is 78% of our goal!  Thank you to all who have already pledged and to those who have not done so, I ask you to prayerfully consider donating.  Remember – no donation is too small.  For those who are unable, we thank you for your prayers.  It is my hope that we can reach our parish goal by Easter Sunday.

Update on the New Restroom in the Church

I am sure you have noticed that work on our new restroom in the church is in progress – it is hard to miss!  With about 50% of the work now complete, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.  We hope to have the project completed by Easter Sunday!  I thank you for your patience during the planning and construction phases of the project.

Installation of New Windows

Work has begun on the installation of new windows in the north wing of the school currently occupied by our tenants, ACDS.  I was successful in negotiating a good price (approximately $50,000) with Kelly Windows of Farmingdale.  Kelly Windows provided the replacement windows for the other areas of the school building.  The north wing is the only part of the school building which still has the original windows from the 1960s.  So as you can see, this project is well overdue and will provide a cost savings in energy conservation.   The funds to cover this project will come from the rebate from the Catholic Ministries Appeal and the proceeds from the 2016 Golf Outing in June.  I thank you in advance for your support.

"It is Finished" – Good Friday, March 25 at 8pm in the Church

The days before and leading to the Crucifixion are brought to life through the characters of Pontius Pilate, Joseph of Arimathea, Dismas the Good Thief, Veronica and Judas Iscariot in this by the Glenn Mohr Chorale.  We are pleased to offer this “deeply moving yet finally triumphant” presentation to our parish family on Good Friday, March 25.  The presentation is appropriate for school age children as well as adults, so please mark your calendar and make this a family event.

Faith Formation Reconciliation Services

It was so good to see our youth with their parents participate in the recent reconciliation services.  In this Season of Lent during the Jubilee Year of Mercy, those present experienced the warmth of the merciful Father who offers us through the sacrament of Reconciliation the Gift of a Second Chance.

St. Patrick’s/St. Joseph’s Celebration

If you were anywhere near Madonna Hall or the St. Pius X gym on Saturday evening, March 5, you could not miss the sea of green and the smell of a traditional Irish-American feast of Corn Beef and Cabbage.  And for those who are of Italian descent (or just prefer their cuisine) the menu did not disappoint.  Many thanks to Grand Knight, Dom Sala, along with dedicated Knights Anthony Pierno and Anthony Corrente and to the Columbiettes under the leadership of Susan Corrente for organizing this festive celebration.

God Bless You -

Fr. Valentine
